Baking through Lent

This is a fun way to keep Lent this year.

Some of the recipes are simple and some tricker, you could bake something every week or just the ones you have the ingredients for or that look tasty.  Whilst you are doing the baking you can thing about how what you are cooking relates to the Bible story for the week.

During Lent we are following Jesus to the cross and beyond, through sad times and wonderful miracles.

If you bake something please try and take a picture of it before you eat it all, then you can share it with me and I can share it will the church family.

1st Sunday 21st Feb

Mark 1 – “At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, 13 and he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted[g] by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.”

Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, he was tempted to make bread from rocks to prove who he was, he knew that true spiritual nourishment comes from the word of God, revealed to us in the Bible.

You will need:

  • 500g bread flour
  • I sachet quick acting yeast
  • 1 tblsp honey or agave syrup
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 300ml warm water

  1. Stir all ingredients together until a ball of dough is formed.
  2. Put the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-10 mins.
  3. Put the dough onto an oiled baking tray or loaf tin and cover with cling film or a damp tea towel. Place it in a warm place for an hour or until it has roughly doubled in size.
  4. Split the dough into 8-10 rolls or keep it in the loaf tin. Bake in a preheated oven at 200˚C for 30-40 mins for a loaf and 15 mins for rolls. When the bread is ready, it should sound hollow if you tap the bottom of it.

Rev Jo's Heartbomb Worship

I have made a short assembly about love and staying at home for the sake of those we love. I am trying to encourage people to share love for their neighbours and neighbourhood this Valentines and am recruiting the children to do this too.

Thank you Rev Jo

Message from Rev Jo

Advent is the time leading up for Christmas, it is all about waiting and preparing for Jesus to come.  During December in my household, it sometimes feels like I am doing all the preparing for Christmas and everyone else is just waiting.  We spent lots of 2020 waiting for the virus to go away and for life to back to normal.  During Advent we are waiting with great hope in our hearts because we are waiting to celebrate a very specific and wonderful thing.  We are waiting to remember that Jesus came into the world to restore love, joy, peace and hope.  We focus on these words as we prepare to celebrate once again.

This prayer feels especially important this year.

Lord Jesus, light of the world,

the prophets said you would bring peace

and save your people in trouble.

Give peace in our hearts at Christmas

and show all the world God’s love.

Rev Jo

Diocese of Chichester's Faith in Sussex

Each week, Oak National Academy will host assemblies and collective worship sessions in partnership with the Church of England and other organisations.

The assemblies will be available from 11am on a Thursday (or you can watch live at 10am).

The collective worships will be available from 11am on a Friday (or you can watch live at 10am).

Both are opportunities for pupils from across the country to come together, hear from some inspirational guest speakers, and to think and talk about wider things affecting us.

Here's some examples

Please find below links to assemblies and worship which you may like to share together.
