During the lockdown and school closure of March-July 2020, we offered books for borrowing from school for those who were learning at home. However, the uptake for this was low, and we have not received all of the books back. As well as this, the weather was much nicer then, meaning that when Mrs Benbow and Mrs Lipscombe were stood outside offering books, they were not freezing or soaked, as they would be now! Therefore, for the time being, we are not going to offer books from school for those learning at home. We will reassess this stance if schools remain closed after half term. I know this is frustrating, but we have a few solutions to this.

Oak Academy have teamed up with the National Literacy Trust to offer a free ebook of popular children’s books. There will be one each week, starting this week with ‘The Story of Tracy Beaker’, written by Jacqueline Wilson. You don’t need to sign up, just click the link below to enjoy.
Sign up for free to access lots of e-books. You can search by age range, and some of these are on Accelerated Reader!
Please bear in mind that we use Accelerated Reader to guide the children as to which ‘level’ books they should access (we call this their ‘ZPD’ and is a range of numbers, for example your child may have a ZPD of 4.2 – 5.6). We do not use Oxford Owl, Oxford Reading Tree or Read, Write Inc to ‘level’ our children, so although they can freely read these books, the levels there will not correspond to your child’s ZPD level from AR. You can check the ZPD of the e-books, if they are on the AR system, at https://www.arbookfind.co.uk/
Children can read any of the above books, even if they are not on the AR system, and even if they are outside of their usual ZPD. We would prefer children to be reading (anything!) than not at all! Of course, they may quiz on any books which are on the AR system, as usual.
